Enjoying Outdoor Learning

We are so lucky that our school in set in such picturesque surroundings and we aways welcome any opportunities for outdoor learning.

Our Nursery and Reception children especially love to get out into the open air as much as they can.

Scooter Workshops

Over the course of this academic year, the school has been utilising some of its Sports Premium funding to host workshops in a range of sports. We are keen to provide children with a wide range of opportunities. With this in mind, every child had the opportunity to participate in a scooter workshop.

Children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 continue to have weekly workshops and children in Years 3 - 6 have the opportunity to continue their learning in the weekly club

Scooter club is always much anticipated each week and I know from speaking to them that the pupils are very much enjoying this club so far this term.

School House Garden - June 2016

An update from the Gardening Club is below.  It really is looking fabulous out there!  As we come to the end of this academic year, we are starting to think about how we can make better use of the school garden across the curriculum in the next academic year - watch this space!

We have been dodging the rain this June in Gardening club but have still managed to have some fun. The wheelbarrow has been painted and is now bursting with colour and flowers, our Sunflowers despite the lack of sun are slowing climbing upwards and are now just peeking above the height of the garden wall for all to see. The pond is also full of life and fascinates the children who have spotted frogs, newts and dragonfly larvae. The Raspberry canes and strawberries are developing their fruit beautifully but we think it will be a race between the hungry birds and the gardening club as to who eats the tasty fruit first. Today years 1,2,3,4 joined us in making their own Bug Hotels, created from old pots, cardboard, bamboo canes, moss and others plants. We discussed the idea of Hibernation for insects especially ladybirds who help us by eating other insects that damage our plants. The Children gave brilliant answers about how the Bug Hotels provided protection from the cold and other creatures who wanted to eat them. My favourite idea from one pupil was that their bug hotel had a slide for the bugs to use and a pole for butterflies to attach to, what a wonderful thought!
